Walking Distances

The physical aspect of walking around theme parks almost every day for 2 or more weeks comes as a surprise to many people. To illustrate the physical exertion, I use my Google Fit app to track my step count and distance walked in each park. I’ve crunched the numbers and the figures below represent my most recent visit to the park.

Steps Walked

21,671

Distance Walked

13.45 km (8.35 miles)

Attractions

Roller Coasters

Animal Kingdom’s coaster count is now down to just 1 but what a roller coaster! Even a problematic Yeti can’t dull this ride.

Thrill Rides

Thrill rides are subjective at this park. Many of the dark attractions will push boundaries for younger riders.

Water Rides

The first major expansion since opening introduced a welcome water attraction with a serious conservation message.

Immersive Rides

You’ll find a great mix of different dark rides with Pandora: World Of Avatar upping the quality on offer.

Children's Rides

Animal Kingdom may have The Boneyard but the focus for younger ones remains with the animals.

Shows

Two of Disney World’s most popular shows reside at this park but that hasn’t stopped them diversifying.

Insider Tips

Dining Tips

Quick service restaurants in Animal Kingdom get very busy around lunch. Once you’re in the park make sure you order your lunch through the My Disney Experience app to get the best choice of timeslots.

Many people don’t stay in the park for dinner making lunch especially busy here. Mobile ordering can apply to any of Disney’s parks but especially for lunch in Animal Kingdom.

If you would rather have a table service sit-down meal, Animal Kingdom tends to have the best walk-in availability of all Disney’s parks, just in case you didn’t book your slot.

Welcome The Rain

Many people either head for the exit or the nearest shop or indoor attraction when the heavens open.

In Animal Kingdom pack for rain and instead head for Kilimanjaro Safaris. The rain brings a lot of the animals out from their favourite shady spots so you will get to see some great behaviour.

Yes, you’re probably going to get damp but along with early mornings, it’s the best time to experience this amazing attraction.

Get Off The Beaten Tracks

Animal Kingdom rewards explorers with amazing and unexpected views. Some of the best views are in the quietest parts because people don’t venture off into the small pathways or are to fixed on getting the attractions done and getting back to the hotel pool.

Animal Kingdom is beautiful but the beauty is in the detail, you only have to look for it and you will be amazed at how rich this park is.
